Passi della tangielosa

A Workshop by Hazel Dennison, covering dances from the 15th century Italian repertoire
Cost: £20 per person

The workshop will cover material from the following dances all of which are from the 15thC Italian repertoire and are built around the concept of possession and jealousy:

  • a. SOBRIA a chivalric dance narrative in which a knight and his lady are pursued by four villains. Gestures of emotion and character are choreographed in with musical notation and textual detail. Ironically the lady emerges as the strongest protagonist.
  • b. MERCANZIA, a balletto in which a lady brazenly initiates a dancing relationship with three men in turn. Gestures occur at significant moments.
  • c. TANGELOSA, a ballo for a couple who display contrasting patterns together and apart “in viso chome gelossi” with jealous glances and locked hands.
  • d. GELOSIA a ballo for 3 couples whose rapid exchange of partners is punctuated by choreographed suspicious glances.
  • e. LA GRAZIOSA IN TRE Two men and a lady challenge each other with steps specifically named “passi della tangielosa”.
  • f. PREXIONERA a ballo of strongly contrasting mesure in which the man and the lady stalk one another in a cat and mouse game.

The course will run from 10:00 to 16:30. The hall will open at 9:30 on Saturday for tea and coffee.

Tea and Coffee are provided, but you will need to bring a packed lunch.
The Hall is roomy and has a good floor for dancing. It has plenty of parking and is only a short journey from the M4. The nearest railway stations are at Twyford and Wokingham. We can collect people from the station if requested in advance.
