Dancing in the early Italian Renaissance

How did they dance in the 1450s? The Dolmetsch Historical Dance Society offers a series of structured workshops providing a fresh perspective on the foundation of skills, steps and style prescribed by dancing masters of the time.

In this workshop, the second in the series, Hazel Dennison will teach balli and bassadanze from the Italian sources of Domenico and Ebreo. Studies will focus on steps, style and embellishment within each of the four misure. Dances will be placed in a wider cultural context. Beginners and improvers welcome, alongside more experienced dancers.

It is expected that music will be from a new CD produced by Mediva for DHDS. The cost of the workshop is £20 per person for DHDS members and £22 for non-members. Bursaries may well be available; please apply to Hazel Dennison.
