Six Centuries of Dance

A total immersion in historical dance
from the 15th through 20th centuries.

Classes will cover both social and theatrical dance forms, and will draw an intersection of professional,
academic and social dancers.  In addition, the week offers a comprehensive track of the essential
dances from each era — including etiquette and deportment — for educators who wish to
teach a comprehensive course in historic dance, or those wanting a thorough introduction to a new era of historic dance.

Each instructor will be teaching several classes each day, with multiple topics from their eras of expertise.  This will enable those who want
to specialize in an era to take an entire week of one genre, like all 19th-20th century vintage dances, all ballet technique,

or all Renaissance and Baroque.  Or one can collect dances from all six centuries.

THE SCHEDULE:  After a Sunday night welcoming dance with live music by the
Brassworks Band, classes and seminars will be held Monday through Friday
from 9 am to 5 pm with lunch breaks.  Most evenings will feature dances and dance concerts, concluding
with a Friday evening Bal Blanc.

See the full schedule here.

This week will immediately follow the June 18-20 Stanford Waltz Weekend held in the same studios.

HOUSING:  The on-campus dorm is a five minute walk from the Roble dance studios.
All housing information is here.

TUITION:  $350, which includes all classes, seminars and evening events.
There is a $50 discount for those taking both the Waltz Weekend and Historical Dance Week.

The low tuition is made possible by support from the

Friends of Dance at Stanford.
