SPANISH BAROQUE DANCE SUMMER ACADEMY

Initiation to Spanish baroque dance by learning the basic steps, and some variations (mudanzas) of Folias, Españoleta and Jácaras.

The Academy will offer work on technique, style, interpretation, as well as the relation music/ dance. Every one will be able to work at his own level, adding arm movements, and castanets. If you have castanets, please bring them with you.

During the Spanish Baroque Dance Academy of the Ensemble Donaïres will also take place the first edition of Mare Musicum, Early Music and Dance Festival of Roquetas de Mar from July 10th to 16th.
It offers an Early Music Workshop, and concerts every night, amongst which the Trio Narciso Yepes, the Seville Baroque Orchestra, the Roquetas de Mar Baroque Orchestra, as well as a Baroque guitar recital by Gerardo Arriaga.

The students of the Dance Academy can participate at the Fin de Fiesta, a danced postlude at the end of an Entremés, theater play that takes place on July, Friday 15th. This allows the collaboration with live music and theater students, as well as the experience of performing on stage. The students of the Dance School of Roquetas de Mar will also dance in the Fin de Fiesta.

Ana Yepes teaches from the books of Esquivel Navarro, Discursos sobre el Arte del Danzado, Sevilla 1642, Juan Antonio Jaque, El libro de danzar, 17th century, Joseph de Potau y de Ferrán, Memoria de las Danças, Barcelona 1701 and Pablo Minguet, Explicación del danzar a la española, Madrid, 1737.

Morning class 10 am to 2 pm and workshops in the afternoon, in two groups, according to the levels, from 3.30 pm to 4.45 pm, and from 5 pm to 6.15 pm. Each group will work on their own, while the other group follows the workshop.
