Grand Costume Ball

Following on from the hugely successful 2008 Costume Ball which was held at St. George’s Hall Liverpool; MADFolk are hosting a Costume Ball at Wallasey Town Hall on April 9th 2011. The Dancing Master will be Mr. Reg Battle with The Pemberley Players.

The Hall is situated on Brighton Street, Wallasey, Wirral, CH44 8ED.

Wallasey Town Hall was opened in 1916 as a military hospital. Following the 1974 local government re-organisation it has served as the Town Hall for the whole of the Wirral. The most impressive view of the Town Hall is from the Mersey Ferry as it approaches from Liverpool. A feature of the Hall is the imposing staircase up to the First Floor which includes the Main Hall which will be used for dancing.

There is ample free parking in an open air car park opposite the Town Hall, between Rappart Road and Kenilworth Road. Also, limited parking around the Hall.

The Hall will be open from 1pm in time for the afternoon workshop, but will be closed between 4pm and 6pm to allow time to prepare for the Ball. Dancing commences at 7.30pm with carriages at 11.30pm.

Period, Regency Costume or evening dress is preferred.
Separate secure changing facilities for ladies and gentlemen in addition to a cloakroom will be available. A welcoming drink will be offered on arrival and a light buffet supper will be provided during the interval. A bar will be available throughout the evening.

There are a variety of restaurants available a short drive away in New Brighton, Liscard or Wallasey Village. A map and directions will be available on the day. Details of accommodation and restaurants can be found from www.visitwirral.com A virtual tour of the Town Hall is available on the Wallasey Town Hall web site.

Tickets costing 20 Guineas (£21) will be available this Autumn from John Smith at 62 Grosvenor Road Birkenhead CH43 1TL.
Cheques should be made out to MAD Folk. Please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope. The tables will be arranged to seat 8 persons. Dancers who wish to sit together are advised to order their tickets as a group.

The number of tickets will be limited to 180. Your ticket will include a welcoming drink, light buffet supper and an afternoon workshop and evening Ball. Some dancing experience would helpful but not essential as every dance will be carefully explained and walked through. An afternoon workshop is available to practise some of the dances which will be on the evening’s programme.
