Dance Technique – Costumes – Notation – Reconstruction -- Repertoire
This Summer workshop for dancers, choreographers, teachers and researchers is meant to be part of the training in Baroque Dance leading the International Certification by the International Council CID UNESCO, Paris. Participation is not limited to CID-members.
It will take place in the Dora-Stratou-Theatre, an open-air garden theatre on the pine-tree covered Philopappou Hill in the centre of Athens, under the Acropolis.
The training contains dance classes of 4 hours every morning. On some days there will be offered afternoon lessons (introduction and exercises of dance notation, analysing baroque dance music, lecture demonstrations, costumes and behaviour at court and on stage).
Participants will have the chance to watch a performance of the well-known Dora Stratou Dance Theatre of Athens (The Living Museum of Greek Dance) and its fine collection of folk costumes, jewellery and accessoires.
The founding of a school of dancing in 1660 by the Sun King Louis XIV marks the beginning of professional education of dance teachers and dancers for court and theatre and at the same time the beginning of ballet by systematizing all body movements connected with La danse noble.
