    Roving Classical Commedia University* 2012 (RCCU*)
    RCCU* is beginning its 11th year teaching Classical Commedia dell'Arte as close to its original form as we believe it was performed in the 1500's to 1600's.

    Commedia dell'Arte characters
    History of the characters; their movement and gestures, improvisation, lazzi, mask work, mask making, physical skills, prop manipulation, rhythm, scatology, scenario, and more; all integrated.

    Scenario & Improvisation
    Much of our scenario and improvisation work will be taken from our own translation of four Flaminio Scala scenarii believe to be performed by the legendary Gelosi Company 1572 to 1604, plus an anonymous scenario we discovered in 1611

    Class Time
    Week 1 & 2: 90 hours of class time
    Week 3: over 38 hours of scenario time
    The third week is all scenario, working and performing complete scenarii*

    Stanley Allan Sherman, co-founder of RCCU*, will lead this intensive. A member of AEA, SAG, AFTRA, is renowned for expertise in Commedia dell'Arte, clown theater, lazzi, mask performance, mime, movement dynamics, mask making, metaphysical mask and scenario. Stanley is an early graduate of Ecole Jacque Lecoq, Theatre Mime Movement in Paris, France when Philippe Gaulier taught there and has worked and taught with Carlo Mazzone-Clementi. He has been teaching, directing, performing, producing and acting throughout the United States and internationally as well as assisting other artists in the development of original shows since 1972.

    As a Mask Maker he enjoyed the longest running exhibition in the history of the NY Public Library Museum of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, created the world famous ManKind Mask for the World Wrestling Federation and creates custom fitted leather clown noses along with countless masks for performers, schools, theaters and dance companies around the world.

    Guest Teachers & Artists
    Meggi Sweeney Smith
    , a member of the New York Baroque Dance Company will be teaching acrobatics and dances performed by the Commedia dell'Arte actors of Northern Italy in the late 1500's.

    Paul Shipper, Grammy Nominee, singer, instrumentalist, actor, vocal expert and opera director. Former faculty member of Mannes College of Music, he has performed in all 50 states, as well as 17 other countries. Paul's concentration will be on voice production for both speaking and singing, diction and playing simple instrumental music from the Commedia dell'Arte era.

    Keith Nelson is cofounder of the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, performing world wide. Keith is a master teacher of prop manipulation.

    Michela Musoline is an Italian singer, musician and folk dancer and will be teaching southern Italian and Sicilian tambourine.
