Gran Ballo a Palazzo Farnese di Caprarola

Grand Ball
Palazzo Farnese di Caprarola (Roma)
in 19th century dress
Sunday 10 June 2012

Società di Danza - Roma realized a 19th century grand ball in the magnificent Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola, also known as Villa Farnese, a mansion in the town of Caprarola north of Rome.
Dancers of the Società di Danza coming from Rome, and also from other towns, including Naples and Salerno, realized quadrilles, waltzes, contredanses, marches.
The Palace dominates its surroundings. It is a massive Renaissance and Mannerist construction built on a five-sided plan iaround a circular colonnaded courtyard. The interior loggia formed by the arcade is frescoed with Raphaelesque grotesques, in the manner of the Vatican Logge. The gallery and upper floors were reached by five spiral staircases around the courtyard: the most important of these is the Scala Regia ("Royal Stairs").
