A Course on the Stuart Masque with Jane Gingell

The Stuart Court Masque was a unique spectacle. Warriors and witches, heroes and princesses, nymphs and idols sang and danced their way through the Stuart masques, in the company of satyrs, madmen, bears and baboons, while the elite group of noble masquers prepared to show their skills in the most sophisticated dances that their masters could devise.

This course offers an introduction to the many and varied performance aspects of the Masque, including grotesque and commedia work as well as dance material from the Inns of Court, the Italian masters and Playford.
