Workshop 1 – SPANISH BAROQUE DANCE (10 am – 2 pm)

Initiation to Spanish baroque dance through learning the basic steps, as well as some variations (mudanzas) of Pavana and Jácara by Jaque, Spanish dancing master of the XVIITh century. The work is centered on technique, style and interpretation, as well as the relationship music/dance. Each participant can work at his/her own level, adding arm movements and/or castanets. Please bring your own castanets, if possible. Ana Yepes teaches Spanish baroque dance according to the Spanish treatises by Esquivel Navarro, Discursos sobre el Arte del Danzado, Sevilla 1642, by Juan Antonio Jaque, El libro de danzar, XVII century, Francesc Olivelles, Memoria de las Danças, Barcelona 1701 (notebook his student Joseph de Potau y de Ferrán) and by Pablo Minguet, Explicación del danzar a la española, Madrid, 1737.

Workshop 2 and 3 – SOUTH-AMERICAN BAROQUE DANCE (4 pm - 5:30 pm and 5:30 pm -7 pm)

Work on the Cachua al Nacimiento (workshop 2) and on Lanchas para Bailar (workshop 3) from the codex Martínez Compaynon, XVIIIth century, from Trujillo, Peru. This manuscript presents scores and iconography. Ana Yepes proposes here a choreographic restitution, synthesis of her research on the Cachuas of today’s traditional Peruvian dance, and of Spanish baroque dance of the XVIIth century.
