Scottish-Australian composer Alex F. Lithgow and the Italian Paolo Giorza – both active in late 19th and early 20th century Australia with a wide success attested by the abundance of printed editions of their pieces – will be the highlights in an afternoon between music and dance with the Orchestra da Ballo de Il Teatro della Memoria, an ensemble directed by Andrea Toschi and specialized in the performance of the Salon Orchestra repertory. The program – that will be presented Sunday 10 march at 5.30PM in the Sala Concerti della Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio – will also feature the typical reels and jigs of the British Isles tradition transplanted in the colonies.
The performers will be Yvonne Fisher (clarinet), Gianni Savelli (flute and saxophone), Paolo Tagliapietra(pianoforte) and Andrea Toschi (bassoon and contrabassoon). The event will follow the lines of last year’s concert-ball with American dance music (see photos): everybody in the house – including those without previous dance experience – will have an opportunity to learn the steps and join in the dances guided by Paolo di Segni and Claudia Celi with the assistance of Annalisa Bianco, Simona Buompadre, Fiorella Martini and Paola Torrani. The costumes of the artists of Il Teatro della Memoria will be overseen by Kathy Benliyan. Those who would like to wear a period dress can use the contacts below for enquiries.
