A Jane Austen House Party

In this anniversary year of ‘Pride and Prejudice’, Jane Austen’s most celebrated novel, why not step back 200 years for a truly memorable experience?

Old Alresford Place is an 18th century former rectory in the picturesque Hampshire village of Old Alresford, just 6 miles east of Winchester, the resting place of Jane Austen and close to the village of Chawton, where Jane wrote most of her novels. Set in five acres of private grounds in the midst of the Hampshire countryside, Old Alresford Place combines period charm with a recently renovated interior, providing excellent facilities and the ideal venue for a ‘Jane Austen House Party!

Residential and non-residential places are available for this exclusive event which will include all meals, entertainment, a Regency fashion study morning, a Summer Ball and a day trip to see the Jane Austen Museum and Jane’s final resting place at Winchester Cathedral, accompanied by your own personal guide. Old Alresford Place offers 15 en suite bedrooms, accommodating just 20 people, all with 21st century facilities such as full Internet access, telephone, tea and coffee-making facilities and digital TV in every room, should you need them! Guests are invited to wear Regency costume throughout the weekend and to immerse themselves fully in the period.

For those who do not have their own costume, suitable clothing can be hired, on application. A full itinerary will be provided nearer the time, but the Weekend will include:

• 2 nights accommodation at Old Alresford Place, including full English breakfast
• Afternoon Tea, supper, an introduction to ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and a screening of the 2005 movie on Friday night
• A Regency costume lecture/study morning with original costumes
• A Summer ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Ball, with dances from the TV and movie adaptations
• Coach travel to Chawton and Winchester on Sunday
• Entrance to the Jane Austen Museum and Sunday lunch
• Tour of Winchester Cathedral and Jane’s House in College Street
• Sunday Afternoon tea at Old Alresford Place
• A professional guide and Regency Hosts throughout the weekend
