The Wrocław Masque Project presents a fully staged production of the Stuart Court Entertainment, Lord Hay’s Masque, as part of the Wrocław "Maj z Muzyką Dawną" Festival.
Dance, drama, music and poetry combine to honour the wedding of court favourite Lord Hay and his bride Honoria. Flora, goddess of flowers, presents Nymphs, Sylvans and Satyrs in celebration of the marriage, while the goddess of Night frees the leafy Greenmen from their trees as they regain their human form and return in triumph to dance at court.
The Oratorium Marianum will become the Great Hall of Whitehall Palace, where King James I and his queen Anna of Denmark sit to watch the entertainment, and the dramatic playing of Ricardo Barros and his ensemble Mercurius will clothe the Nymphs and Satyrs, Gods and Goddesses, Bears and Greenmen, and Lords and Ladies with Campion's lovely music.
This Timedance Hansa production, with the dancers of the Wrocław University Early Dance Group, musicians of Mercurius and students of the Wrocław University Philology Department, is directed by Jane Gingell and produced by Konrad Przybycień, with Ricardo Barros as Music Director.
