Welcome to the experience of Portuguese Baroque!
Have you ever dreamt of playing in front of the King's throne? Or in the Queen's chambers?

Hosted by the Oporto college of music (ESMAE) in collaboration with its Lisbon counterpart (ESML), the XI International Early Music Course ESMAE/ESML will take place in the beautiful National Palace in Mafra, Portugal. This magnificent monument, the greatest exponent of Portuguese baroque architecture, will host five days entirely devoted to music from the 16th to the 18th century.
The faculty consists entirely of musicians with a vast experience in the field of historically informed performance, both as teachers and performers. Apart from individual tuition, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a number of different activities such as chamber music and vocal ensembles,
renaissance music consort, baroque orchestra and baroque dance.
Starting with a welcome concert, several daily activities will take place throughout the course such as historical instruments exhibitions, music scores and books display, conferences, students' concerts and a final concert with orchestra and dance.
During the course, free access to the palace will be given to participants so you will literally be able to play, practise and rehearse before the King's throne, in the Queen's chambers or in the Basilica with 6 organs! We are sure it will be a unique artistic, aesthetical and learning experience.
