The ensemble Les Matelots specialises in the performance of chamber and dance music from the 17th and 18th Century on historical instruments.

A must-see at any historical festival or in concert, as a Dance-band they are the perfect accompaniment for any Baroque or Rococo ball. All four musicians adhere to the very core tradition of the baroque era in that they constantly develop their own arrangements of the dance tunes of the period.

Optimal visual impact and historical ambience are important goals of the ensemble, and so they are happy to appear in historic costume. The name of the ensemble refers to the popular Contredanse 'La Matelote' (Female Sailor).

Das Ensemble Les Matelots musiziert auf historischen Instrumenten Kammermusik und Tanzmusik aus dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert. Es gestaltet unterhaltsame und informative Konzertprogramme, bei denen der Hörer mit Wort und Musik an verschiedene Schauplätze des barocken Europas geführt wird. Die vielfältigen improvisatorischen Elemente mit denen Les Matelots spielt, verleihen der Musik ein authentisches und lebendiges Wesen.

Als Tanzband mit eigener historischer Tanzpraxis begleitet es Barock- und Rokokobälle. Die vier Musiker knüpfen direkt an die Tradition der Barockzeit an, indem sie eigene Arrangements von Tanzmelodien dieser Zeit entwickeln.

Um auch optisch das Flair der Zeit wiederzubeleben treten die Musiker gerne in historischen Kostümen auf. Der Name Les Matelots ist ein Anspielung auf den populären Contredanse 'La Matelote' (Die Matrosin).
