Introduction to Baroque Dances
Les Caractères de la Danse - J.J Rebel
Afternoon Course: July 19>28 5.00pm-6.30pm Teacher: Lieven Baert Level: Intermediate-Advanced Program:Les Caractères is a musical fantaisie and wants to resume the characteristics of the fashionable baroque dances of that time (beginning of the 18th century). Prélude followed by a Courante, Menuet, Bourrée Chaconne Sarabande , Gigue, Rigaudon, Passepied, Gavotte, Sonate, Loure Musette and finishes with a Sonate . The partiture gives no indications of mouvements. It is not surprising because the dance titles itself give the ndication.
We will analyze the dance and then try to dance each dance with the proper steps.
The aim of the class is to understand the “character“ of each dance movement, not to perform it perfectly.
The course is addressed to musicians and dancers.
