Shakespeare Jubilee 400 - A day of celebrating 400 years of Shakespeare

Afternoon Concert: 14.00 – 16.00

A celebration of Shakespeare in his day, and across time: a variety of presentations to celebrate the range of his achievements, rounding off with social dancing c.1600.

Evening Event - Regency Shakespearean Masquerade Ball: 19.00 – 23.30

A Ball for dancers: you’re invited to come as a character from Shakespeare’s plays or in Regency dress with a mask. An elegant cold buffet supper will be served in the interval and there will be a bar. Prizes for the best costume!

Afternoon concert

A variety of contributions are invited for this concert: short scenes, recitations, dances, music and song. Each may be up to 15 minutes in length. Performers may rehearse at the venue in the morning from 10.30 to 12.30.

Evening ball

We will dance country dances, cotillons, quadrilles etc. - all from the Regency repertoire referencing Shakespeare and his plays. A selection of the dances will be taught in advance in local classes led by the callers. A dance programme will be sent out in advance. All dances will be called. Changing facilities are available beforehand. There will be an interval when a cold buffet supper will be served.

HDS AGM

The Historical Dance Society AGM will be held for its members at 16.30.
