Italian Renaissance Dance Company BELREGUARDO
The Company was founded in 1993 by Chieko Ono and is based in Assisi. It performs shows and courses that combine dance, music, and acting. The Company has performed at renowned historical sites in Italy and abroad, such as the Elztal Museum and the Trompete Schloss in Germany, the Sforzesco Castle in Milan, the Villa Contarini Piazzola sul Brenta, the Notary Hall of Perugia, the Trinci Palace in Foligno and the Sala della Conciliazione and the Pinacoteca Gallery of Assisi and in various museums. Chieko Ono
Chieko Ono graduated in Japan, lives in Assisi and Guardea, and is the director of the Cultural Association “Il Convivio”. She founded the Italian Renaissance Dance Company “Belreguardo” in 1993. Her main activity is related to philological research aimed at the reconstruction and development of ancient Italian dances of the 15th and 16th Centuries, on the basis of original documents and manuscripts of the time. She periodically conducts ancient Italian dance workshops in Italy and abroad (Australia, Japan, Switzerland). She has held several conferences about the comparative study of ancient dance in East and West. She translated the book "The Japanese Dance" by Tamotsu Watanabe (Joint translation, Ed. Ali & No, 2001) and produced the CD “Gloria et Malum - music of the Italian dance of the Fifteenth century” (co-production Micrologus-Belreguardo, 2008). She collaborates also with the journal Tohoku Art and Culture Society (articles are written focusing on "Dance and Italian art of the fifteenth century”). Chieko Ono was nominated ‘Knight of the Republic of Italy‘ in 2019, following the proposal of the Italian Prime Minister and by decree of the President of the Italian Republic.
