Rameau's "Zoroastre" at Drottingholm

Just a few weeks ago, a friend gave me a DVD containing a documentation about Rameau's opera "Zoroastre". The opera was performed in 2006 at the Swedish castle Drottingholm. The castle is famous for having an opera theater that has survived all the year in very good condition. Even the stage decoration still works and has been used for the performance.

The music was very nice as the opera was performed by "Les Talens Lyrique" which was lead by Christophe Rousset. The visual impression was beautiful too, as they were using the old stage designs from 18th century. Costumes were in 18th-century style and the light was mainly provided by candles. Having singers, dancers and choir on the stage, gave a lively impression of how the theatre might have looked like 200 years ago.

The ARTE documentation shown some scenes out of the opera and mixed them with interviews with performers. You could see Christophe Rousset practicing with a singer.

The documentation has been broadcasted in 2007.
