CARNEVALE PRAHA 2015 - Baroque Nights at the Clam-Gallas Palace

(PRAGUE, January 22nd 2015) The popular series of carnival Baroque concerts and soirées will take place at the Clam-Gallas Palace from Saturday, February 7th to Tuesday, February 17th 2015. This year’s programme is dedicated to the three charming topics. The first performance entitled "Vivat Carnevale", presenting music from famous Baroque carnival operas will be held Saturday, February 7th, on the opening day of the Prague carnival season. The following day February 8th, we invite you to the première concert "On the azure waves", which is dedicated to music composed for the Imperial Ambassador Johann Wenzel Clam-Gallas, builder of this Prague residence. A week later, on February 14th and 15th around St Valentine’s day the beautiful palace spaces will resound to concerts called "Musica Amorosa", amorous music.

Description: On azure waves / Music for an Aristocrat

The aristocratic Johann Wenzel Count von Gallas, the Imperial Ambassador in Rome and builder of the Prague ancestral palace where the concert takes place, was a famous patron of the arts. An important and comprehensive example was his patronage of the famous Italian composer and cellist Giovanni Battista Bononcini, who was court composer to three emperors.

The programme of concert consists of music from the archives of J.W. Gallas
The musicians will play on authentic instruments. Baroque tuning (a = 415 Hz Valotti)

Valentine's Day: amorous music by Italian composers of the 17th and 18th centuries will be played.

Vivat Carnevale / Long Live Carnival

Carnevale alias carnival used to be the highlight of the social season. In the past several of the most famous musical works were composed specifically for this period. The programme will feature music from famous carnival operas of the 17th and 18th centuries, composed by Lully, André. Campra, Gottfried Finger, Albinoni, Vivaldi, G. F.Handel and others.
