In diesem Workshop beschäftigen wir uns mit Contraddanze, die G. Magri in seinem berühmten Trattato Teorico-Pratico di Ballo (Neapel 1779) veröffentlichte. Entworfen hatte er sie für die Bälle der gehobenen neapolitanischen Gesellschaft. Auch bei unserem Kurs wird es recht nobel zugehen, denn wir tanzen diesmal zu Livemusik!

The Edinburgh Baroque Weekend is a dance workshop suitable for a wide audience including musicians playing baroque music, dancers who would like  to learn more about historical dance as well as people who are generally interested in baroque art and dancing.

12 hours workshop is divided between two days. Each day consists of two sessions: morning (from 10 till 13) and afternoon (from 13 till 17).

Morning sessions include technical training and familiarisation with different baroque dance and music forms such as chaconne/passacaille, bourrée, minuet, gavotte.

Chorégraphie :  Une  CONTREDANSE à Huit ou un COTILLON à Quatre

Pas de base et principes pour les contredanses: pas de bourrée, contretemps, pas de gavotte, pas de menuet… selon la chorégraphie. La contredanse, danse de la fin du Bal au XVIIe siècle, venue d'Angleterre, est devenue la coqueluche en France par le plaisir de danser ensemble des personnes présentes. On privilégie la figure et le jeu entre les partenaires, si les pas, eux, ne sont pas (trop) difficiles.

This is an intensive three-day workshop focusing on the dance technique of the serious and demi-caractère styles of early ballet circa 1680-1790. The material presented is based on very extensive but as yet largely unpublished scholarly research into early ballet technique. This workshop then is a unique opportunity for dance-students, musicians of early music, or simply curious lovers of ballet to be introduced to a more historically accurate reconstruction of the theatrical dance from the age of Bach, Rameau, and Mozart.
