On 17-22 August 2010, Chalemie will hold its 12th Summer School in Early Music, Dance, Period Costume Making and Commedia. Leading performers from the group will direct a series of workshops on 17th/18th century music, song, dance, commedia and costume making, with a particular emphasis on the English repertoire of this period.

The course this year will be held once more in the delightful surroundings of Headington School, in beautiful old buildings just a mile from the centre of Oxford and situated in 22 acres of parklands, gardens and woodland.

Cesare Negri (* um 1535 - † um 1604) war Tanzmeister am Hof zu Mailand. Sein erstmals 1602 in Mailand erschienenes Traktat "Le Gratie d'Amore" (Neuausgabe: Nuove Inventioni di Balli, Mailand 1604) gehört mit den Werken von Fabritio Caroso zu den bedeutendsten Quellen der höfischen Renaissancetanzkunst in Italien.

Workshops of Old-Polish dance from 17th and 18th century and court etiquette at 2 pm and 3 pm

Rom, die „Ewige Stadt“ – 1527 nach dem Sacco di Roma noch am Boden zerstört, entwickelt sie sich innerhalb weniger Jahrzehnte zu einer der bedeutendsten Metropolen Europas. Als Mittelpunkt der geistigen Erneuerung in der Gegenreformation bestimmt Rom wieder die Geschicke der Welt. Fürsten und Kardinäle übersiedeln an den Tiber, ein Bauboom ohnegleichen lockt Künstler und Baumeister in die Stadt. Zahllose Pilger aus aller Herren Länder füllen die Straßen und Plätze mit buntem Leben, während Klerus und Adel in prunkvollen Festen ihre Macht inszenieren.

Dieser Kurs soll einen Einstieg in den Barocktanz ermöglichen.
Es werden Schritte und Choreographien der heute viel gespielten und damals gebräuchlichsten barocken Tänze vermittelt. Dies reicht vom Gesellschaftstanz, den sog. Contredances bis zu den Balltänzen, etwa Courante und Menuett, wie sie z.B. am Hofe des Sonnenkönigs Ludwig XIV. getanzt wurden.

Es wird eine Auswahl von folgenden Tänzen studiert und gemeinsam getanzt.Contredances um 1700 von R.A. Feuillet und John Essex

A weekly course in Renaissance dancing for a total of 8 classes to be held each Wednesday from 18,30 to 20,00

A weekly course in XIX century social dancing, with a total of ten classes held each wednesday from 18,30 to 20,00.

Three weekend workshops in Commedia dell'Arte (one in november 2009, one in march 2010 and one in May, organized jointly by Il Teatro della Memoria and Ondadurto Teatro. Each workshop has a duration of 15 hours for a maximum of 20 students. It's possible to attend only one of the three workshops.
