This work brings together approaches and research of historical dances and music and was born from close collaboration between Chieko Ono, director of the ancient Dance Company Belreguardo and the Ensemble Micrologus.

How did they dance in the 1450s? The Dolmetsch Historical Dance Society offers a series of structured workshops providing a fresh perspective on the foundation of skills, steps and style prescribed by dancing masters of the time.

In this workshop, the second in the series, Hazel Dennison will teach balli and bassadanze from the Italian sources of Domenico and Ebreo. Studies will focus on steps, style and embellishment within each of the four misure. Dances will be placed in a wider cultural context. Beginners and improvers welcome, alongside more experienced dancers.

A workshop with classes in historical dance (Baroque Dance, Baroque Dance Notation, Renaissance Dance, and Music of Charpentier and Lully); English Country Dance; a fully staged production (Charpentier's “Les Arts Florissants” 1685); a special Baroque dance performance with live music; lectures; concerts; and more.

Lieven Baert--level 1: introduction to Italian, French and English 16th-17th century dances. Technique and balletti by Fabritio Caroso e Cesare Negri; gagliarda variations of Santucci; English country dances (Playford) and Measures of the Inns of Court

Barbara Sparti--level 2: The balletto "della duchessa", Martel d'amore, choreographed by Leone Tolosa, recently rediscovered, and performed in 1582 by the Duchess of Ferrara and other seven ladies of the court, dressed as four shepherds and four nymphs.
