The workshop will cover Regency dances in the morning with country dances and cotillons. In the afternoon we will dance some later quadrilles from the Victorian era.  Studying these dances will help us learn their fundamental moves, footwork, timing and patterns. In dancing together, dancers can get a great sense of teamwork and achievement! All welcome, both beginners and experienced dancers.

Schon im frühen 19. Jahrhundert tanzte man in Großbritannien „The Lancers“. In Deutschland hingegen kam diese Quadrille erst in den 1850er Jahren in Mode, mal als „Lanciers“, mal als „Quadrille à la Cour“ bezeichnet. Es handelt sich um einen fröhlichen, fünfteiligen Vierpaartanz mit abwechslungsreichen Figuren. Es gab auch Versionen in Kolonnenform, die einfacher zu lernen sind und bei denen man etwas flexibler bei der Anzahl der tanzenden Paare ist. Je nachdem, wie viele Tänzer wir an diesem Nachmittag sein werden, tanzen wir die eine oder die andere Form.

July 21, 22 and 23: BEGINNERS

A first approach to John Playford’s dances (1651-1670)

Meant for whom? For dancers new to this repertoire but with some experience in dancing, and for dancers aiming to teach English Country Dancing. 

What’s on the programme? Introductions, verse and chorus dances. The following dances will be taught: Hit and Miss, Saturday Night -Sunday Morning, The Gun and Shepherd’s Holidays, plus a few longways for as many as will.

An diesem Frühlingsnachmittag wollen wir einfach eine Reihe von netten Tänzen in Gassen-, vielleicht auch in Vierpaar-Aufstellung – je nach Anzahl der Anwesenden! – vor allem aus dem 18. Jahrhundert tanzen. Das verbindende Thema ist der Mai! Dieser Workshop richtet sich daher an alle, die Spaß am Tanzen haben.

Bitte bequeme Kleidung und Gymnastikschuhe oder Ähnliches mitbringen. Ein Partner wird für die Anmeldung nicht benötigt!

The course vill be lead by the coreographer and dancer Marco Bendoni, who have worked with prestigious music ensembles suchs as Jordi Savall, Christina Pluhar ,Le Petit Bande o la Fudnación Instrumentos con Historia de Emilio Villalba y Sara Marina.

Our course will take place in the Festival Renacen de Madrid, that takes different historical spaces of Spain, where artists and students work with literature, music, and dance of the Reinanssance, a period so importnat on the art of the spanish culture.

Dances of the Italian Renaissance: Exploring Fifteenth and Sixteenth Century Dance.

Friday 14th to Monday 17th July 2023 or Friday 14th to Friday 21st July at Bromsgrove School, Bromsgrove, West Midlands.

We offer a choice of a 15th or 16th Century dance course. The longer course is aimed at those with previous experience and some knowledge of the step vocabulary.  The weekend course offer an excellent introduction to historical dance. Please note that the 15th century weekend dance course will now be run by Letizia Dradi as Hazel Dennison has sadly had to withdraw.

An immersive workshop about the orgins of American Vernacular Dance, dealing with historical, theoretical and practical aspect of this style.

Through listening, body percussion excercises and studio practice we'll develep some sequences that can be useful for the improvisation. The multifaceted chararcter of this event makes it fit for anyone interested in swing dance.

The level of the dance classes is OPEN, every step wil be introduced and examined in detail, giving useful elements both for beginners and for experts.
