Co-ordination Technique in the Baroque

This is a course for those wishing to explore and consolidate basic baroque technique. This course focuses on step and arm co-ordination, working with basic step sequences and a variety of rhythms and tempi.  We will not be trying to learn an actual dance, so there is time to concentrate on style and presentation.

The level is general - but students should have done at least a little baroque already.

On 12-17 August 2014, Chalemie will hold its 16th Summer School in Early Music, Dance, Period Costume Making and Commedia. Leading performers from the group will direct a series of workshops on 17th/18th century music, song, dance, commedia and costume making, with a particular emphasis on the English repertoire of this period.

The course this year will be held once more in the delightful surroundings of Headington School, in beautiful old buildings just a mile from the centre of Oxford and situated in 22 acres of parklands, gardens and woodland.

YARRANGOBILLY 19TH CENTURY DANCE & COSTUME RETREAT

We’ll dance for 3 hours every morning and 3 hours every evening and in between all-can-enjoy cave tours, river walks, thermal-pool-swimming, games, sleeping, cooking and eating. The accommodation, food preparing areas, lounges and dance rooms are simply fantastic. Any 19th century dress, be it from day or evening dress from any of these periods is fine. We’ll have a big cave tour in full Victorian era costume and there’s a prize for those who manage a Victorian era bathing costume (otherwise your usual is fine!).
