Neben dem Menuett und den Contredanses waren im 18ten Jahrhundert volkstümliche Tänze – sogenannte „Nationaltänze“ sehr beliebt. Die Tanzmeister der Zeit schreiben leider wenig darüber, Feldtenstein nennt hier den: „Englischen, Deutschen, Schwäbischen, Pohlnischen, Hannak= Masur= Kosak= und Hungarischen“ Tanz.
Kaum zu glauben, aber wahr – wir haben aus dem 18ten Jahrhundert eine Reihe von Tänzen die das Wort „Hessen“ oder z.B. den Namen einer hessischen Stadt enthalten.
