Professor Duncan-Jones of Somerville College, Oxford, will take her audience through the active career of William Kemp, famous for "dancing to Norwich". His roles in plays by Shakespeare and others will be discussed, as well as the likely extent of his career post 1600. Professor Duncan-Jones has been widely published on Sidney and Shakespeare and is currently working on Elizabthan foold and foolery.

Images of dance can often be read as symbols of love and the expression of desire. This lecture examines themes of love, courtship and marriage in the National Gallery Collection and considers the role of art and dance in the courtly celebrations and rituals of the 15th and 16th centuries.

Während man sich im ausgehenden 16. Jahrhundert in den übrigen Ländern Europas gerade bemühte, die Errungenschaften der italienischen Renaissance zu kopieren, suchte man in Italien bereits wieder nach neuen Ausdrucksformen, die die Werke eines Raffaels, eines Bramantes oder eines Leonardos ablösen sollten. Auch die Tanzkunst an den italienischen Fürstenhöfen hatte in den letzten Jahrzehnten eine neue Gestalt angenommen, wie sie uns in den Tanzbüchern Carosos und Negris überliefert ist.
