Organization

The 19th century stages of Saturday afternoon and Sunday will be special.
They will focus on theory and practice of social dance of 19th century. We will study dance and dance manuals reasoning and understanding dances from the sources and meantime understanding how the dance system we use is structured.

Empire-Regency-Ball - Freitag, 22. November 2014, 20 Uhr

An diesem Abend entführt das Schloss Friedrichsfelde in die Zeit von Königin Luise und der englischen Schriftstellerin Jane Austen. Der Glanz und die Farbenpracht einer längst vergangenen Epoche werden neu erstrahlen.

Bei heiteren Tänzen des späten 18. und frühen 19. Jh. werden Sie an diesem Abend auf eine Zeitreise mitgenommen und eröffnen damit die diesjährige Ballsaison. Dieses einmalige Abenteuer beginnt bereits mit der Wahl Ihrer Kleidung und den passenden Accessoires.

Time: 7pm – 11pm.   Access for changing at 6.30pm.  Carriages 11.30pm.

Dance: Regency dancing including Quadrilles and ball dances of the period

Bi weekly court dance lessons, on saturdays or sundays (or both) given by Erwin Mulder at sporthal hogeveld in The Hague.

Lessons in 2015 will probably start on 18 January 2015, then alternating every 2 weeks on saturday then sunday.

Joint event with Bedford Gallery Quire

A convivial Christmas party inspired by the writing of Charles Dickens, jointly organised by Bedford Early Dance and Music and Bedford Gallery Quire. It will include a programme of dancing, carol singing and entertainment. Family and friends welcome. Details available later in the autumn.

A chance to enjoy and gain skills in the country dances, cotillons, quadrilles and reels of Jane Austen’s day. The first half (2–4 pm) of each workshop will welcome all comers, including beginners on each day. The second half (4–6 pm) will extend the range of steps and figures particularly in the ever-varied cotillons.

"Gemeine oder gesellschaftliche Tänz sind zum gesellschaftlichen Vergnügen erfunden worden; deswegen müssen sie auch so beschaffen seyn, daß Personen, die sich kein Hauptgeschäft aus der Tanzkunst machen, dieselben lernen können. Sie kommen darin überein, daß zwei, und mehrere Personen, gemeinschaftlich nach einer kurzen Melodie, die in Bewegung (Takt) ihren eigenen bestimmten Karakter hat, nach bestimmten Figuren eine bestimmte Anzahl zusammengesetzter Schritte machen, und diese so lange wiederholen, als sie Lust dazu haben." Our Ball is a costumed event and all ladies and gentlemen dress in the style of the Regency or 18th Century period. The look is known as the Empire line, with a high waist just below the bust, very flattering and feels wonderful to wear. Ideas for costumes can be found on this website CLICK.

A day course on Regency dance taught by Anne Daye. Sunday 12th October 2014, 10 am – 5 pm at St Patrick's Catholic Club, Trinity Street, Huddersfield, HD1 4DA. Cost £15 per person (£14 DHDS members).
