Inspired by records of Polish court customs at the reign of the last Jagiellons, the performance is a vivid illustration of court choreographies of the time. In Poland a fashion for masquerades and Italian court entertainments was initiated by Queen Bona Sforza. Sporting rich Renaissance costumes and stylized masks, dancers transport the audience into the world of the Renaissance carnival, where fantasy, love and court intrigues await.

In diesem Seminar tanzen wir Kontratänze des 18. Jahrhunderts, mit abwechslungsreichen, geselligen Figuren und dem überlieferten Schrittmaterial der 2. Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts. Grundlage des Seminars ist das neue, zweite Buch von Verena Brunner über Kontretänze der Mozart-Zeit mit Tanzbeschreibungen deutscher und französischer Tanzmeister und der dazu gehörigen CD mit weiteren Einspielungen von Mozarts Tanzmusik.

Nous vous proposons deux disciplines, danse renaissance italienne et danse baroque, réparties en quatre cours pouvant être choisis séparément ou à la suite. Un cours comprendra au total 12 heures d’enseignement.

Workshop im Rahmen der 4. Internationalen Barocktanztage in Potsdam

 Der "Tantz mit dene Pratspießen" aus: "Neue und curieuse theatrialische Tantz-Schul" Nürnberg 1716

Im Kurs wird eine mögliche Form der Umsetzung eines Groteskenbildes erarbeitet. Da bis auf Bild, Melodie und einen kurzen szenischen Anweisungstext keinerlei choreographische Hinweise vorliegen, sind musikalischer Satz und Choreographie von der Dozentin (Musikerin und Barocktänzerin) neu kreiert worden.

„Dieser Tanz ist vorzüglich geeignet eine ganze Gesellschaft gleichzeitig zu unterhalten“, schrieb 1756 der Leipziger Tanzmeister Charles Pauli über die Contredanses anglaises. Ein junger Salzburger Hofrath und Freund der Mozarts notierte 1775 in sein Tagebuch: „Wir tanzten 3 Contredanses und 1 neuer Quadrille, es ware sehr lustig.“

Fancy travelling back in time to the pre-Victorian period, when the ladies in Jane Austen’s novels put the excitement into life? In 2014, our annual opera ball in the sumptuous salons of the Ghent opera house will be on the theme of the 1770-1820 period, a time of aristocratic excess and official balls. The focus of the evening is the ‘country dance’, but you will also pick up old minuets and new waltzes. Each dance is taught on the evening itself, to the accompaniment of a live orchestra. So put on your finest dress and who knows, you may meet your very own Mr Darcy.
