The featured dance will be The Princess Anna (saraband and boree) 1716 by L’Abbé, notated by Pemberton. This will be the basis for exploring musicality and expression within the style and discussion of the differences between L’Abbé and Feuillet and Pecour.

The workshop is aimed at varied levels of experience in the technique. Edith works sympathetically with all dancers, and will adjust and vary the material to suit participants. In support of this approach, music will be provided by Mollie Koenisberger on violin.

Just before the Night Fountains Shows, a 40 minutes stroll around the King’s Grand Apartments with the Dance Company L’Éventail and the Amarillis Ensemble.

As at Court in the 17th century, eccentric or grand scenes which the walls of Versailles witnessed will be performed for the public: dressing ceremony, Court ball rituals, farcical uproar of Moliere’s doctors, reverence of religious music, pastoral lightness of the bagpipes. The artists of the Dance Company L’Eventail and the Amarillis Ensemble will summon characters that will come alive before our eyes…

Baroque Dance Course with Jane Gingell

In this course we will be concentrating on consolidating technique and co-ordination by studying sequences from notated baroque dances, as well as making co-ordination exercises and step-work. The level is fairly intensive, but we will also take some lighter relief with contredanse and Playford.

We will work for about six hours each day. This course is suitable for intermediate-level students of baroque dance; it may also be of interest to more advanced dancers, but it is not suitable for beginners.

The theme of 15` "Cracovia Danza" Court Dance Festival is music, which has been connected with dance since its beginnings. G. Dumanoir's work "Le Mariage de la Musique avec la Danse" ("The Marriage of Music and Dance") proves that the inseparable bound between those two arts has existed for many years. Masters of dance played on instruments and musicians performed the art of dance. Through the events of the "Cracovia Danza" Court Dance Festival devoted to this subject we desire to find this unique harmony of dance and music, nowadays so hard to achieve and less practiced than before.
