When the Lights Went Out

A performance of Edwardian dances and music familiar to Norfolk people in those pre-First World War years. Come along and enjoy an afternoon of ragtime, folk and social dances and music. We end with a specially created commemorative dance to the accompaniment of popular WW1 music and song which highlight the cataclysmic effects of war.

MUSIC IN THE TIME OF ABUNDANCE

We invite you to the carnival series of Baroque concerts, which are part of the Program of Prague Carnival. Events are held from Friday, January 29th, till Fat Tuesday, February 9th 2016 , at the Clam-Gallas Palace, in the magnificent seat of the Bohemian Statesman and Habsburg Imperial Ambassador, Johann Wenzel von Gallas.

Tragédie en musique in 3 acts by Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687)

Ein Abend aus Musik, Tanz, Gesang, Dichtung und Bildender Kunst - wie am Königshof von Versailles im frühbarocken Frankreich.

Pan tritt leibhaftig auf, das Bühnenbild lässt die Heldinnen und Helden der Antike direkt vor unseren Augen erscheinen, die Musik entführt alle in eine zauberhafte Welt zwischen Mythos und der überschäumenden Lebensfreunde des Barock. Grenzen verschwinden und die Legende wird für einen Moment lebendig und zum Greifen nah. Er erklingen Vokal- und Instrumentalwerke von M.P.de Monteclair, F. Couperin, J.-Ph-Rameau und J.M. Hotteterre.

” Once upon a time… ” On hearing these magic words time stops, silence falls and we are ready to plunge into a world of the imaginary, the marvellous, from the most terrifying to the most spectacular and most delicious.The voyage of discovery may start towards the detachment from paternal love and the awakening of femininity…

Here there is no spoken text but music sung and danced ; shadow-play where both the best and the worst become fantastic ; a baroque universe, refined and surrealist.
