The conference proposes an exploratory look at the migration and confluence of dance styles, forms and practices through the wide net linking European nations and their colonies worldwide.

In a dialogue between Coloniser and Colonies, what part did dancing have in the cultural exchanges between nations? What impact did they have overseas and to what extent were they absorbed?

Der Katharinentag war traditionell der letzte Festtag vor der Adventszeit, in der früher ein striktes Tanzverbot und Fastengebot bestand. Also wurde an diesem Tag noch einmal ausgiebig getafelt und getanzt. Auch in diesem Jahr findet der Kathreinstanz in Kooperation mit den Altstadtfreunden an alt ehrwürdiger Stelle und stilistisch passend in der Renaissance-Halle des Peller-Hofs am Egidien-Platz statt. Deshalb sind uns historisch gewandete Gäste an diesem Fest-Abend besonders willkommen.

Un spectacle dansé comme si vous étiez dans un salon de la bonne bourgeoisie londonienne au XVIIe siècle: un maître à danser enseigne les contredanses à la mode éditées par John Playford, tout en faisant la part belle aux mélodies d’Henry Purcell où se mêleront airs, musique de scène et musique traditionnelle irlandaise.
