Der Canario ist der „Stepptanz“ der Renaissance, sein Merkmal sind geschlagene Schritte und rhythmische Finesse, die ihn in die Nähe des heutigen Stepptanzes oder Flamenco führt. Originalmodelle von Caroso und Negri (16. Jhdt.) sind Basis für unsere eigenen Erfindungen und Variationen: anfangs tanzen Herr und Dame gemeinsam, dann trennen sie sich, um auf Plätze einander gegenüber „mit den anmutigsten und virtuosesten Variationen miteinander zu wetteifern“. Am Schluss treffen sie sich wieder, um den Tanz gemeinsam zu beenden.

The Donaires Ensemble, of which I am director and choreographer, is launching a “crowdfunding” campaign in order to raise the funds necessary to secure the budget of their next creation, Concordances - European Ballet, for 9 dancers and 5 musicians.
